Heavy rains in Meghalaya have caused significant damage in neighbouring Assam, with a wooden bridge connecting Chataimari and Gumaijhar villages in Goalpara district being swept away by floodwaters.
The incident, which occurred in the Jaleswar constituency, was captured on camera as a powerful stream of water destroyed the crucial link between the communities.
The bridge's collapse has left residents of the affected areas isolated, cutting off their access to essential services and nearby towns. Local authorities are now facing urgent calls from villagers to address the situation and restore connectivity.
Residents are appealing to both the government and their local MLA for immediate action to repair or replace the destroyed bridge.
As monsoon rains continue to affect the region, concerns are growing about potential further damage to infrastructure and the impact on local populations.
