Assam youth allegedly held at Hyderabad hospital over Rs 5 lakh bill, family appeals to CM for help
As festive celebrations mark Durga Puja and Kati Bihu, a financially struggling family in Assam’s Nagaon district is desperately seeking help to bring their son home from a private hospital in Hyderabad, where he has allegedly been unable to leave for nearly two weeks due to an outstanding medical bill of around Rs 5 lakh.
Jitu Bora, a resident of Halowa Gaon in Kalongpar, Puranigudam, had been working in a small private-sector job in Hyderabad to support his elderly and reportedly ailing parents, Mahim Bora and Kumkum Bora.
According to the family, Jitu suddenly fell seriously ill, following which his friends admitted him to KIMS, a private hospital in Hyderabad.
He reportedly underwent treatment for around 20 days, including a complicated surgery, and his condition subsequently improved. However, the family said the hospital bill had climbed to approximately Rs 5 lakh, leaving them unable to clear the outstanding amount.
The family said it had borrowed money and sent several thousand rupees towards his treatment, but the amount was insufficient to meet the total expenses. With no means to pay the remaining bill, Jitu has allegedly been unable to return home for nearly two weeks.
Residents of his village have extended some financial assistance after learning about the family's plight. However, the contributions have not been enough to arrange his return from Hyderabad.
With limited financial resources and no immediate way to clear the hospital dues, Jitu’s parents have appealed to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to intervene and help bring their son back home.
In an emotional appeal, family members urged the chief minister to take steps to secure Jitu’s release from the hospital and facilitate his return to Assam.
The family is now hoping for urgent assistance as it struggles to arrange the money needed to bring Jitu home.
