Assam: Youth arrested in Boko for allegedly making communal remarks on Eid, investigation underway

Assam police in Boko arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly posting a communal video threatening violence against the Hindu community. The video, which surfaced on social media, has triggered strong public condemnation and led to the registration of a formal police case.

The accused, Saniur Rahman, son of Gazibur Rahman and resident of Pathalipara village under the Sontoli area, was reportedly seen in an Instagram video posted from the account "Sunny Bhai". In the video, he appeared in a luxury vehicle and allegedly made provocative and inflammatory comments, including threats to "sacrifice Hindus", drawing widespread outrage.

Following public uproar and a formal complaint submitted by the Citizens’ Committee of Boko Police Station area, a police team led by Officer-in-Charge Munna Pachani swiftly acted and apprehended the accused late last night. Authorities have confirmed that Rahman is currently in custody and preparations are underway to produce him before the court.

A case has been registered under Case No. 194/2025, invoking multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)—including Sections 196(1), 299, 302, 352, 353(1), and 351(3)—along with Section 67 of the IT Act, which pertains to publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form.

Police officials said the arrest is part of a zero-tolerance approach to communal incitement and the misuse of digital platforms to spread hate speech. They further assured that the matter will be investigated thoroughly and appropriate legal action will be taken.

Community leaders and residents have also urged authorities to set a strong example to deter the use of social media for spreading communal discord.
