Assam Youth Congress Facebook page operated from Saudi Arabia: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has alleged that the official Facebook page of the Assam Youth Congress is being operated from Saudi Arabia, raising fresh concerns about foreign interference in Indian politics.

Addressing the media, the Chief Minister said such developments posed a serious national security concern, yet failed to attract adequate attention from the media or public.

“No one seems interested in issues concerning the nation’s security. Who is questioning the Bangladeshi accounts? What about the ones operated from Pakistan? Now, the Assam Youth Congress page is being run from Saudi Arabia — but nobody seems to care. Instead, all that matters is who bought a cow or who ate it,” Sarma remarked, taking aim at what he described as misplaced priorities.

He further stressed the importance of heightened public awareness and vigilance when it comes to digital influence from foreign soil.

“On such serious matters related to national security, we all need to be more vigilant and aware,” he added.

The Chief Minister’s remarks come amid a broader narrative advanced by the BJP that foreign-linked social media accounts — allegedly from countries like Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia — have been amplifying content in support of the Assam Congress and its leaders.

While Sarma has previously spoken about a forensic audit of thousands of suspicious accounts, the specific charge that a key Congress social media handle is being run from outside India marks a significant escalation.

As of now, the Assam Youth Congress has not issued any official response. The allegation, however, is expected to add further fuel to the intensifying political face-off in Assam, with Assembly elections slated for 2026.
