Assam: Youth held with suspected banned drugs near Borgolai railway station

A youth was arrested with suspected banned drugs during an anti-drug drive under Margherita Police Station in Borgolai area of Margherita, police said.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of Ledo Outpost In-Charge Roshan Thapa as part of an ongoing crackdown against narcotics. 

According to sources, vigilant local residents intercepted a suspicious youth near Borgolai Railway Station on February 24 and detained him before handing him over to the police.

The accused has been identified as Kanu Tanti. Upon search, the police team allegedly recovered 1.68 grams of suspected banned drugs along with cash amounting to Rs 34,970 from his possession.

He has been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway. The seized items have been preserved for examination as per procedure.

Police officials stated that the incident highlights the role of community participation, alongside law enforcement, in efforts to curb drug-related activities in the 83rd Margherita Legislative Assembly Constituency in Tinsukia district.
