Assam's Bokakhat MLA Rupam Chandra Ray joins farmers in paddy cultivation, promotes self-reliance among youth

In a gesture aimed at encouraging farmers and promoting self-reliance among the younger generation, Baokhungri MLA Rupam Chandra Ray actively participated in paddy cultivation at Haribhita village near Kokrajhar town.

Moving beyond speeches and slogans, the young legislator stepped into the muddy paddy fields, drove a tractor, and joined local farm workers in transplanting paddy saplings. Wearing a traditional hat and Koch-Rajbongshi gamosa, Ray worked alongside farmers to highlight the importance of agriculture and rural livelihoods.

Speaking on the occasion, the MLA said that agriculture should not merely be discussed in words and slogans but should be embraced through practical participation. He emphasised that farming can serve as a means of self-employment and economic independence while also inspiring others in society.

Ray said his objective was to encourage the youth to explore agriculture as a viable livelihood option and to demonstrate that dignity and opportunity lie in productive work. His participation in the farming activity drew appreciation from local residents and farmers, who welcomed the initiative as a positive example of leadership through action.

The event also underscored the importance of strengthening the connection between public representatives and grassroots communities, particularly those engaged in agriculture, which remains the backbone of the rural economy.
