Assam’s Deepjyoti Patgiri to join NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center as Postdoctoral Researcher

Bringing pride to Pathsala and Assam, Dr Deepjyoti Patgiri has earned an opportunity to work as a postdoctoral researcher at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in the United States.

Patgiri, who studied at Bajali Higher Secondary School in Pathsala, will reportedly be the only Indian selected this year for research at NASA. He is set to undertake research on anisotropy in the solar atmosphere, an area related to the study of variations and directional properties in the Sun’s atmosphere.

After completing his research work at IIT Roorkee, Patgiri is scheduled to leave for the United States on September 23 to begin his new research journey at one of the world’s prominent space research institutions.

On Thursday, Patgiri visited his former school, Bajali Higher Secondary School, where he addressed a counselling session and interacted with students, sharing insights from his academic and research journey.

The achievement has brought considerable pride to the people of Pathsala, particularly his family. Patgiri is the son of retired teacher Umesh Patgiri and retired teacher Ramani Patgiri.

His journey from a government educational institution in Pathsala to an international research opportunity at NASA has also emerged as an inspiration for students in the region.

Patgiri’s upcoming assignment at the Goddard Space Flight Center will mark another step in his research career following his work at IIT Roorkee.
