Assam's Haflong Government College students protest alleged irregularities in exam results

Students of Assam's Haflong Government College on June 8 staged a protest by locking the institution's main gate, demanding transparency in the evaluation process and fair allocation of marks in recent examinations.

The protesting students alleged that a significant number of candidates received unusually low marks in the recently declared results. According to them, some students were awarded single-digit scores, while several others are yet to receive their mark sheets.

The students stated that on June 2, they had submitted a memorandum to the Vice-Chancellor of Assam University through the Deputy Commissioner of Dima Hasao district, seeking rectification of alleged discrepancies in the examination results. They had also urged the university authorities to take appropriate action by June 6.

However, alleging that no satisfactory response was received within the stipulated time, the students intensified their agitation on Monday by locking the college's main entrance and staging a demonstration.

The protesters demanded re-evaluation of answer scripts, complete transparency in the assessment process, and immediate issuance of mark sheets to students who have not yet received them.

The agitating students warned that if the university authorities fail to address their concerns promptly, the movement could escalate further in the coming days.

While the protest created some tension on the college campus, no untoward incident had been reported at the time of filing this report.
