Assam's irrigation department introduces a solar-powered water supply system to empower farmers

The irrigation department in Assam has achieved a milestone by providing water to farmers through its newly implemented solar power system.

This initiative marks a pivotal moment for the farming community in the region, particularly in Kaliabor, where six farmers have directly benefitted from the innovative approach to cultivating Boro paddy.

The Kaliabor irrigation division has emerged as a beacon of support for local farmers, facilitating the cultivation of Boro paddy by providing water through solar energy systems across several bighas of land.

Notably, the irrigation department's solar energy system in Maut village of Kaliabor has revolutionized farming practices, particularly in the fields of Shilghat, where water scarcity during the drought season had been a persistent challenge for farmers.

The successful implementation of the solar energy system has not only addressed the long-standing water woes of farmers but has also enabled them to cultivate Boro paddy across extensive land areas.

This newfound self-reliance in agricultural production has empowered the farming community, allowing them to diversify their crops and cultivate various vegetables alongside Boro paddy.

Expressing their gratitude, farmers have extended heartfelt thanks to both the irrigation department and the chief minister for the transformative impact of this initiative.

The collaborative efforts between the government and local authorities have not only alleviated immediate agricultural challenges but have also paved the way for a more sustainable and resilient farming ecosystem in Assam.
