Assam's Karimganj renamed Sribhumi, signboard changes begin across district

Karimganj district of Assam has been officially renamed as Sribhumi. The state secretariat issued a directive on November 21, 2024, setting the wheels in motion for the district’s renaming.

Government offices in the district headquarters initiated the process of updating signboards to reflect the new name. The Karimganj municipality was the first to unveil its updated signage in a formal ceremony led by District Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Dwivedi. The event was marked by cultural vibrancy, featuring traditional cultural performances.

Subsequently, signboards at other key establishments, including the offices of the District Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police, were replaced.

District Commissioner Dwivedi has called upon all institutions and establishments within the district to expedite the transition by updating their signboards to display the name Sribhumi.
