Assam's Morigaon BJP holds rally under ‘Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy’ slogan
The Morigaon district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organised a large rally in Morigaon town under the slogan “Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy” (Ganatantra Bachao, Arajakata Hatao).
The rally was attended by Assam BJP president Dilip Kumar Saikia, Cabinet Minister Pijush Hazarika, MLA Ramakanta Deuri and MP Devasish Sharma, along with the district BJP president, office-bearers and several thousand party workers.
Addressing the gathering, Hazarika criticised the Congress over its remarks questioning the Election Commission of India (ECI). He alleged that the party continued to mislead the public and hurt people despite facing criticism.
Referring to the recent Nagaon by-election, Hazarika claimed that the Congress secured only around 10 per cent of the votes. He also accused the party of taking contradictory positions on the ECI, alleging that it praised the institution when election results favoured it in states such as Kerala, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Telangana, but questioned its credibility when the BJP won.
Hazarika said the BJP condemned what he described as the Congress's criticism of the Election Commission.
