Assam's Nagaon students body levels serious allegations against private institute, threatens legal action

A students organisation in Assam's Nagaon has levelled a series of serious allegations against a private educational institution, accusing it of issuing fake degrees, illegally collecting money in the name of B.Ed admissions and engaging in financial irregularities.

 

Addressing a press conference on August 2, representatives of the Nagaon students body, including Shibaranjan Barua and Himanka Sarma, alleged that the institution, identified as HAM-EK Group of Institutions, had been awarding fake degrees for financial gain.

 

The student leaders further alleged that the institution was collecting large sums of money from students under the pretext of admissions to its B.Ed programme.

 

Warning of legal action, they said a case would soon be filed before the Gauhati High Court seeking an investigation into the alleged irregularities.

 

The students' body also condemned the alleged assault on journalists by members of the institution's management, describing the incident as an attack on press freedom.

 

The organisation further claimed that the institution's name had earlier surfaced in connection with the alleged misappropriation of scholarship funds meant for minority students.

 

The management of HAM-EK Group of Institutions has not yet responded to the allegations.
