Assam’s new Umrangso cricket stadium with 15,000 seater gallery to be inaugurated on Dec 5
Assam is set to get a new state-of-the-art cricket stadium as Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma will inaugurate the Assam Cricket Association’s (ACA) newly built facility in Umrangso on December 5.
The scenic hill town in Dima Hasao, known for its natural beauty, now houses a modern cricket stadium constructed without disturbing the region’s ecological balance—similar to stadiums in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and England.
BCCI General Secretary Devajit Saikia, who recently inspected the stadium, said that the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council’s Chief Executive Member Debolal Garlosa had allotted 30 bighas of land for the project.
Earlier, plans were considered for Haflong, but suitable land could not be found, leading the ACA to select Umrangso for the stadium.
Saikia revealed that the ACA had conceived the project four years ago and has now completed construction. The stadium includes gallery seating for 15,000 spectators and five practice pitches. He confirmed that both BCCI and ACA will host domestic cricket matches at the venue, envisioning it as a major destination cricket centre for players across India.

He added that previously, cricket activities in the district were conducted on a football ground in Haflong, but the new stadium will now provide a full-fledged platform for budding cricketers. He expressed confidence that talented players from Dima Hasao will emerge in the coming years.
Built with the support of the Umrangso Sports Association, the stadium’s pavilion has been dedicated in the name of Chingia Tularam Senapati.
The inauguration ceremony, scheduled for December 5 at 2 pm, will be graced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Dima Hasao Autonomous Council CEM Debolal Garlosa.
