Assam's Silchar warehouse owner alleges repeated arson attempts, files police complaint

A warehouse owner in North Krishnapur Part-I of Silchar has alleged repeated attempts to set fire to the premises, opposite RJ Medicity Hospital, and lodged a police complaint based on CCTV footage.

The complainants have accused Mahmud Hassan Mazumdar, also known as Moni Mazumdar, of attempting to set the warehouse on fire. According to the owners, CCTV cameras captured footage of the alleged incidents.

The owners claimed that attempts to set fire to the warehouse had been made on four occasions. In the latest incident, during the early hours of Tuesday, rubbish was allegedly piled up beside the warehouse and set on fire.

The warehouse reportedly contains goods worth around ₹2 crore, raising concerns among the owners about the possibility of substantial financial losses if the fire spreads to the stored materials.

The complainants further alleged that the accused had repeatedly attempted to purchase the land on which the warehouse is located. They also claimed that he had faced allegations of setting fire to a house in 2003. However, these claims have not been independently verified.

The business owners said they had been operating in the area for a long time and expressed concern over the repeated incidents and the safety of their stock.

They have urged the police to conduct an impartial investigation, examine the CCTV footage, identify those responsible and take action in accordance with the law.

The allegations are yet to be independently established, and further details regarding the police investigation were not available.
