Attempted seizure of community pond sparks outrage in West Karbi Anglong; Religious structure vandalised
Tension gripped Jirim Gaon in Hawaipur Mouza, Donkamokam Revenue Circle, when a group allegedly led by Haraing Kramsa, In-Charge Forest Range Officer of Ouguri Range, and Bronson Kramsa, President of Zirim Bazar Committee, attempted to illegally seize a community fishery for personal use.
The pond, situated on government land (Dag No. 255, measuring 1 Bigha, 4 Katha, 18 Leesa), holds both religious and communal significance for local residents.
Reports state that when villagers confronted the group, the accused threatened them, reportedly saying, “Go away from here, otherwise we will pit you in the pond,” in an attempt to intimidate the community.
The situation escalated further when a religious structure dedicated to Chhath Maiya was vandalized, causing outrage and hurting the religious sentiments of locals.
Sources claim that this is part of a pattern of incidents involving the accused, who are identified as younger brothers of Sarthe Kramsa, Forest Board Chairman of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Diphu.
In response, two FIRs have been lodged at Mailoo Outpost under Kheroni Police Station in West Karbi Anglong District. The administration is investigating, while residents are demanding immediate action to resolve the land dispute and restore peace in the area.
