Ballot boxes dispatched, Assam's Morigaon ready with 3,888 polling staff for panchayat polls

As Assam's Morigaon gears up for the second phase of Panchayat elections on May 7, a total of 3,888 polling officials — including 3,732 men and 156 women — were dispatched today, May 6 to their respective polling stations across the district and its subdivisions, carrying ballot boxes and election materials. Additionally, 420 personnel have been kept on reserve to ensure seamless election operations.

In Morigaon Legislative Assembly constituency alone, 1,032 male and 44 female polling staff departed from Morigaon College field, equipped for 269 polling stations. In Laharighat subdivision, 1,400 male and 56 female officials set out from Rajagaon Higher Secondary School, covering 364 polling stations. Similarly, Jagiroad subdivision saw 1,300 male and 56 female officials leaving from Jagiroad Higher Secondary School to manage 339 polling stations.

The distribution of polling materials at all three centers proceeded in an orderly and efficient manner, aided by new subdivision-wise arrangements that expedited the process this year.

Morigaon district will operate 972 polling stations in total, including special women-managed stations: 15 in Morigaon, 14 in Jagiroad, and 10 in Laharighat.

The district's total voter base stands at 700,430 — comprising 354,785 men, 345,632 women, and 13 third-gender voters. Of these, Morigaon constituency has 178,997 voters, Jagiroad 239,523, and Laharighat 281,910. The Panchayat polls in the district will elect representatives for 12 Zilla Parishad constituencies, 5 Anchalik Panchayats, 84 Gaon Panchayats, and 840 wards.

District authorities have expressed confidence in the smooth conduct of polling, backed by extensive manpower deployment and streamlined arrangements.
