Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma issued a strong statement asserting that no nation should entertain the notion of compromising India's territorial integrity, particularly in reference to the strategic Siliguri Corridor, often referred to as the "Chicken's Neck."
In his remarks, Sarma emphasized India’s military capabilities, referencing the recently concluded Operation Sindoor as a testament to the country's strength. “The world has witnessed India’s military prowess during Operation Sindoor. No country should live under the illusion that it can take over the Chicken’s Neck,” he stated.
Sarma further addressed repeated references to the corridor by Bangladesh. “Bangladesh has been raising concerns over the Chicken Neck, but let’s be clear they have two such corridors, while India has one. Should they even contemplate targeting ours, we have the capability and right to respond to theirs,” he remarked.
Drawing a geographical comparison, he noted, “The corridor from Meghalaya to Chittagong port is narrower than ours and we are just a call away from reaching it.” He clarified that India discusses the Chicken's Neck only within the context of internet and security policy, and not as a provocation. “Others must not misinterpret or attempt to interfere with it,” he cautioned.
Reiterating India’s global stature, Sarma said, “India's power has already been demonstrated. I have not even brought our nuclear capability into this conversation. Bangladesh would have to be reborn several times to pose any real threat to India.”
Calling for a grounded approach, Sarma said that India need not place disproportionate focus on Bangladesh, terming it a "small country" that cannot be compared with India in terms of power or influence.
