Bengal's poll verdict is India’s victory: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday, May 5 described the political outcome in West Bengal as “a victory for the country,” asserting that concerns related to security and criminal activities linked to the state had created unease across several parts of India.

Addressing reporters in Guwahati, Sarma alleged that anti-national activities and criminal networks had been operating openly in West Bengal, while porous borders had contributed to insecurity in parts of North and eastern India.

He further claimed that individuals involved in criminal activities often viewed West Bengal as a safe refuge after committing offences elsewhere.

Referring to governance and development in Assam, the Sarma said his government would continue its existing policy direction rather than introducing entirely new initiatives.

“We don’t have to do anything new. We have already started a lot of work in Assam in the last 10 years. We will continue that work and fast-track it,” Sarma said.

Sarma also reiterated his government’s commitment to accelerating ongoing development projects and administrative initiatives undertaken during the past decade.
