Beti Bachao Beti Padhao: ASCW chief Angoorlata Deka reviews women’s welfare efforts in Kokrajhar
Assam State Commission for Women (ASCW) Chairperson Angoorlata Deka visited Kokrajhar on Saturday, December 6 as part of the second phase of the “Biswas Jatra” Bike Rally, a state-wide initiative under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign aimed at strengthening public trust and promoting the safety, education, and empowerment of girls.
During her visit, Deka chaired a review meeting with district officials and key stakeholders at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, assessing the progress of women-centric schemes and discussing strategies to enhance gender-sensitive governance in the region.
She later addressed an awareness programme at Narabari Girls' College, where she interacted with students and highlighted the importance of education, financial independence, and community vigilance in ensuring women’s safety.
Deka also inspected the facilities and services at the One Stop Centre, Kokrajhar, which provides support to women facing violence and distress.
The “Biswas Jatra” Bike Rally continues to travel across Assam, aiming to mobilise communities, foster awareness, and reaffirm the state’s commitment to protecting and empowering girls.
