His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan arrived today, April 19 at the under-construction International Multimodal Logistics Park in Jogighopa, located in Assam’s Bongaigaon district.
The visit marks a significant diplomatic and economic gesture, reflecting the growing regional cooperation between Bhutan and India, especially in trade and connectivity.
Although the royal helicopter was scheduled to land at 8:30 am, the arrival was delayed slightly. In anticipation of the King’s visit, elaborate security arrangements were put in place, with a heavy presence of Bhutanese security personnel deployed at the site.
Assam Cabinet Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah accompanied the King during the inspection of the logistics park, which is being developed as the country’s first international multimodal logistics hub. The project is expected to play a transformative role in enhancing trade infrastructure and boosting economic ties with neighboring countries like Bhutan and Bangladesh.
Following the site inspection, the King also toured the Inland Water Transport (IWT) port located nearby. The visit was held under strict protocol, with the local administration barring media entry to the premises.
Officials believe that the Jogighopa logistics park, once operational, will revolutionize cross-border trade and logistics in the region, positioning Assam as a key gateway to Southeast Asia.
