‘Biggest murderer of Assam’: Akhil Gogoi’s sharp attack on BJP’s Kushal Dowari sparks Sivasagar showdown

Raijor Dal president and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi on March 23 said he is not worried about BJP candidate Kushal Dowari and launched an attack on him over his alleged “politically kill” remark.

During the nomination process, Dowari had reportedly said he would “politically kill” Gogoi. Responding to the comment, Gogoi said, “A person who is a killer will naturally speak of killing,” in a counter-attack.

Gogoi further alleged that Dowari, who was earlier known as Jayanta Hazarika, was involved in 26 murder cases and described him as “the biggest murderer of Assam.”

Asserting that he was not intimidated, Gogoi said, “I am not afraid of anyone. Do you think an educated place like Sivasagar will vote for such a candidate? From highly educated Sivasagar, the BJP has selected a person like him, it is an insult to the people”.

He further added that if he could openly criticise Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in the past, he would not fear any other political opponent. Gogoi also highlighted that he had undertaken several development works in Sivasagar, claiming to have executed 15 projects in the constituency.

The Raijor Dal leader also claimed that a “self-respecting” member of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has decided to join his party, alleging that the BJP had betrayed its ally in Sivasagar. “In Sivasagar, the BJP and AGP have parted ways, and we have all united together,” he said.

Later in the day, Gogoi held a meeting at Rajiv Bhawan in Sivasagar with booth- and mandal-level office-bearers of the Congress from the Sivasagar constituency. The meeting was attended by Sivasagar District Congress president and Demow constituency Congress candidate Ajay Kumar, along with several other Congress leaders and workers.
