'Bihu showcased, Jhumur next, Bagurumba to follow': Assam CM on national cultural push

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced ambitious plans to highlight the state's cultural heritage at the national level through sequential showcases of traditional dance forms.

"My intention was to take Bihu, Jhumur, and Bagurumba to the national level. Bihu has already been showcased and this time, Jhumur dance will be performed," Sarma told reporters today, February 20.

The CM revealed that Jhumur will be performed on February 24 as part of Advantage Assam 2.0, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in attendance. He further stated that Bagurumba performances would follow later in the year.

"In October, November or December, Bagurumba will also be presented," said CM Sarma.

The Chief Minister also outlined a massive cultural initiative aimed at fostering state unity. "In the Barak Valley, in the mountainous regions, and across the Brahmaputra Valley, all these regions together, 1 crore people will sing 'O Mur Apunar Desh'. This will instill in everyone the resolve for new Assam, binding it to their hearts."

The sequential showcasing of Assam's traditional dance forms reflects the government's efforts to preserve and promote the state's rich cultural diversity while creating a unified cultural identity.
