Bir Lachit Sena seeks crackdown on alleged drug trafficking in Assam's Sivasagar

The Sivasagar Town Committee of Bir Lachit Sena has submitted a memorandum to the Officer-in-Charge of Sivasagar Sadar Police Station, seeking action against individuals it alleges are involved in drug trafficking in the town.

In the memorandum submitted on Wednesday, June 24, the organisation expressed concern over the growing prevalence of narcotics in Sivasagar district and claimed that the number of young people consuming drugs has increased in recent years.

The organisation acknowledged that Sivasagar Police has intensified its anti-drug operations in recent months but alleged that the illegal trade and circulation of narcotics continue in several parts of the district.

According to the memorandum, signed by the committee's president, Dwijen Gogoi, the organisation urged the police to investigate and take action against members of two families residing near the cremation ground in Ward No. 7 of Sivasagar town, alleging their involvement in drug trafficking activities.

Bir Lachit Sena also called on the police administration to intensify efforts against the narcotics trade and identify and apprehend others allegedly linked to the network.

The organisation said stringent action against drug traffickers was necessary to protect the younger generation and work towards the creation of a drug-free society.
