BJP aspirants submit applications for Assam's Morigaon assembly seat

Several aspirants seeking the BJP ticket for the Assam's Morigaon Assembly constituency have submitted their applications on January 30, to the party president at the Morigaon district BJP office, indicating growing internal competition ahead of the elections.

Among those who have applied are Tiwa Autonomous Council Chief Executive Member Jiban Chandra Konwar, nominated member of the Tiwa Autonomous Council Ajit Deka, youth leader Utpal Kumar Nath and Bishnu Bhagawati.

The development comes amid rising anti-incumbency sentiment against sitting BJP MLA Ramakanta Deuri, who currently represents the Morigaon constituency. Political observers note that the names of Jiban Chandra Konwar, Ajit Deka and Utpal Kumar Nath are increasingly being discussed among the public as potential alternatives.

Sources said copies of the applications have already been forwarded to the BJP state president, district in-charge, co-in-charge, Morigaon constituency in-charge and coordinator through Morigaon district BJP president Ramprasad Sarkar.

With multiple contenders emerging and public sentiment reportedly shifting, the sitting MLA is expected to face a strong challenge in securing the party ticket this time.
