BJP launches ‘Jan Ashirwad Yatra’ in Assam ahead of Assembly polls 2026
With the 2026 Assam Assembly elections drawing closer, the Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party has launched an ambitious statewide mass outreach programme, the Jan Ashirwad Yatra, aimed at consolidating grassroots support and showcasing its governance record over the past decade. The first phase of the yatra begins on February 28 and will continue till March 9, marking the formal start of the BJP’s election groundwork.
The yatra was inaugurated by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma from the historic Gupteshwar Devalay in Dhekiajuli under Sonitpur district. Party leaders described the religious venue as symbolically significant, reflecting what they called a blend of cultural reverence and political outreach.
BJP MP Pradan Baruah said the objective of the Jan Ashirwad Yatra is to enable the Chief Minister to directly connect with the people and seek their blessings ahead of the crucial electoral battle. He stated that along with the Chief Minister, several national leaders and members of the state BJP committee would participate in the journey across different constituencies.
Baruah emphasized that the yatra would serve as a platform to inform citizens about the developmental initiatives undertaken by the BJP government over the last ten years, particularly highlighting the work executed under Chief Minister Sarma’s leadership in the past five years. “Through this journey, people will get detailed information about what we have delivered. Our party is making every effort to ensure the success of this outreach,” he said.
At the launch event in Dhekiajuli, thousands of party workers and supporters gathered, expressing enthusiasm and confidence about the upcoming elections. Participants described the atmosphere as energetic and optimistic, asserting that the BJP is well-positioned to secure another mandate in 2026.
Political observers view the Jan Ashirwad Yatra as a strategic move to reinforce the BJP’s electoral narrative, strengthen cadre mobilisation, and build momentum well in advance of the Assembly polls. With the first phase set to traverse key regions of the state, the yatra signals the beginning of what is expected to be an intense and high-stakes political contest in Assam.
