BJP sets 2026 poll target in Karbi Anglong, aims clean sweep in hill districts
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on January 9, held a joint extended meeting of its East Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong district units at the Langsudo L.P. School playground under the Bithung Rengthama MAC constituency in West Karbi Anglong district, setting an ambitious target of a clean sweep in the hill districts in the 2026 Assam Assembly elections.
The meeting was led by BJP Assam Pradesh President and Lok Sabha MP Dilip Saikia, who called for further strengthening of the party’s organisational structure from the booth to the district level. Saikia lauded party workers for their continuous efforts in expanding the BJP’s base and said disciplined organisation and grassroots outreach would be key to electoral success.
Addressing the gathering, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Chief Executive Member Tuliram Ronghang urged party workers to remain united and work with renewed dedication to ensure a decisive victory in the upcoming polls. He set a target of winning all five Assembly seats in the hill areas under the KAAC jurisdiction.
Highlighting development in the region, Saikia said Karbi Anglong had witnessed a significant transformation under the BJP-led government. Drawing a contrast with the situation 15 years ago, he said the region was once in a “deplorable” condition, but has now seen visible and comprehensive development benefiting local communities.
The meeting witnessed the participation of several senior leaders, including Diphu Lok Sabha MP Amarsing Tisso, all sitting MLAs from the hill districts, BJP West Karbi Anglong district president Radip Ronghang, BJP Karbi Anglong district president Roland Killing, in-charges and co-in-charges of both hill districts, Executive Members, Members of Autonomous Council, board chairpersons, district office bearers, and representatives of various party morchas, cells and wings.
A large number of karyakartas (party workers) from mandal to booth levels also attended the meeting, reflecting the party’s organisational strength in the region.
The joint meeting underscored the BJP’s intensified preparations and emphasis on unity in the hill districts as it gears up for the crucial 2026 Assam Assembly elections, aiming to consolidate its support base in Karbi Anglong.
