BJP slams Congress over derogatory remarks against PM Modi's late mother, stages protest in Guwahati

A political showdown unfolded in the heart of Guwahati on Sunday, August 31 when BJP and Congress workers staged protest and counter-protest outside Rajiv Bhawan, turning the city into a flashpoint of confrontation.

The BJP organized the protest, accusing the Congress of making derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother at a Mahagathbandhan event in Darbhanga, Bihar. Party workers, led by State BJP President Dilip Saikia, marched to Rajiv Bhawan, the Congress headquarters, demanding an apology from the opposition leadership.

The situation escalated when Congress workers launched a counter-agitation on the same spot. Shouting slogans such as “Go Back BJP” and “Down with Narendra Modi Government,” they confronted the BJP protesters.

In a display of political theatrics, Congress workers held party mufflers and mockingly welcomed BJP leaders to “join Congress.” They even offered tea and sweets while taunting BJP leaders, branding them as “cow thieves.”

Countering BJP’s demand for Rahul Gandhi’s apology, Congress members insisted that Prime Minister Modi should first apologize to the people of India.

Security personnel were deployed to maintain order as the verbal duel played out on the streets.
