BJP to contest all three Rajya Sabha seats in Assam, candidates almost finalised: Himanta
Candidates for the three upcoming Rajya Sabha seats from Assam have been almost finalised, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on February 18, indicating that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is preparing to contest all three seats.
Speaking to reporters, the Chief Minister said the BJP is confident of securing a clean sweep in the elections.
“The candidates for the three Rajya Sabha seats are almost finalised. The BJP will contest all three seats, and we are hopeful of winning all of them,” Sarma said.
The Rajya Sabha elections are scheduled to be held for the seats falling vacant from Assam, with political parties intensifying internal consultations ahead of the announcement of nominees.
The BJP, which leads the ruling coalition in the state, currently holds a strong position in the Assam Legislative Assembly, giving it a numerical advantage in the indirect election process for the Upper House of Parliament.
