Bodo Peace Accord Anniversary observed in Assam’s Kokrajhar

The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) on January 27, observed BTR Peace Accord Day to commemorate the signing of the Bodo Peace Agreement, 2020, at a programme held at the BTC Assembly Conference Hall.

The observance began with leaders and participants paying floral tributes to Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma at his statue in front of the BTC Secretariat. As part of the programme, signatories of the historic peace accord were felicitated in recognition of their role in the agreement.

The event was attended by BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary, Assam Cabinet Minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma, MP Rwngwra Narzary, and MLAs Lawrence Islary and Rabiram Narzary. Key signatories to the accord, including former NDFB leader Dhiren Boro and BKWAC Chief Mihineswar Basumatary, were also present.

Representatives from organisations such as the NDFB, All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU), Bodo Sahitya Sabha, Boro Samaj, and other groups participated in the programme, reflecting broad political and social representation.

Retired IAS officer Hemanta Narzary attended the programme as the appointed speaker.

Addressing the gathering, speakers underscored the importance of the full implementation of the BTR Peace Accord and reiterated the BTC government’s commitment to peace, development, and stability in the Bodoland Territorial Region.

The gathering urged the government to expedite the time-bound implementation of the remaining provisions of the Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) and called for the release of NDFB leaders who continue to remain in jail.
