Bodoland breaks free from decades of neglect, says BTC chief

Chief of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), Pramod Boro, underlined the transformative development initiatives undertaken in the Bodoland region over the past four years.

Speaking to the media, Boro reflected on decades of neglect faced by the region and stressed his administration’s commitment to inclusive growth and effective governance.

"The Bodoland region was ignored by the system for many years. The centrally sponsored schemes were not properly implemented in the area. The state government also did not work for the development of the region for the last many decades," Boro stated.

He asserted that the current BTC administration has prioritized reversing this long-standing marginalization. "The priority of our government is to ensure the development of the region. In the last four years, our government has worked to make governance very effective," he added.

Highlighting key achievements, Boro mentioned the successful implementation of several irrigation schemes aimed at boosting the agricultural sector. He also pointed to the revival of traditional industries, particularly handloom, with local artisans and women weavers regaining momentum thanks to the return of peace in the area.

"As peace prevails in the region, our artisans have started working. We are very rich in the handloom sector. Women are very expert in weaving," he said.

Emphasizing the cultural vibrancy of Bodoland, Boro added, "We are regaining trust among the tribals, various communities. Our culture is very rich. Bodoland is developing."

The BTC Chief’s remarks come at a time when the region is witnessing renewed optimism and increased infrastructural investments following years of socio-political instability.
