Bodoland People’s Front releases first list of 11 candidates for Assam assembly polls

Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), a constituent of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), unveiled its first list of candidates for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections shortly before midnight on March 19.

The party has named nominees for 11 constituencies in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), signalling the start of its campaign in a politically significant belt of the state.

The announcement was made at the party’s headquarters in Kokrajhar by BPF president Hagrama Mohilary, who outlined the party’s strategy to focus on key constituencies across the BTR.

Candidates declared include Sabharam Basumatary from Gossaigaon, Rabiram Narzary from Dotma (ST), Sewli Mohilary from Kokrajhar (ST), and Rupam Roy from Baokhungri. Dr Rezul Karim has been fielded from Parbotjhora, while Paniram Brahma will contest from Sidli-Chirang (ST).

The party has also nominated Thaneswar Basumatary from Manas, Maneswar Brahma from Baksa (ST), Maheswar Boro from Bhergaon, Rihon Daimary from Udalguri (ST), and Charan Boro from Mazbat.

The first list indicates a mix of experienced faces and regional leaders, with the party aiming to consolidate its base in the BTR. The region remains crucial for the BPF, which has historically drawn its core support from these constituencies.

The announcement sets the stage for a competitive contest in the BTR, where multiple parties are expected to field strong candidates in the run-up to the April 2026 polls.
