Body recovered from container truck near NH-27 in Assam’s Bongaigaon, probe underway
A 47-year-old man was found dead inside a container truck near National Highway-27 at Manikpur in Assam’s Bongaigaon district, triggering an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, police officials said.
According to preliminary reports, the body was recovered from a container truck bearing registration number WB-19 T-8015, which was found off the highway along the roadside under the jurisdiction of Manikpur Police Station. Notably, the vehicle showed no visible signs of damage, raising questions about how the incident unfolded.
The matter came to light today morning after passers-by noticed the stationary truck and alerted the police. Responding swiftly, Manikpur Police reached the spot, examined the vehicle, and recovered the body. The deceased was taken to Manikpur Mahatma Gandhi Adarsha Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
The deceased has been identified as Devajit Shikar (47), a resident of Uttarpara Kansar in West Burdwan district of West Bengal. The body has since been kept in police custody.
Police officials said the exact cause of death remains unknown and will be determined following a post-mortem examination. Further investigation is underway to ascertain whether the death was due to medical reasons, foul play, or any other cause.
