Bongaigaon GRP seizes heroin and morphine worth Rs 81 lakh in back-to-back operations

The Government Railway Police (GRP) in New Bongaigaon has intensified its crackdown on drug smuggling, conducting two major operations on December 4 that resulted in the seizure of narcotics worth nearly Rs 81 lakh.

Acting on specific intelligence, a team led by SI Sanjeev Choudhury carried out a raid on the DN Charlapalli Weekly SF Express at the New Bongaigaon railway station. 

During the operation, police recovered 93 grams of suspected heroin concealed inside eight soap cases. The seized contraband has an estimated market value of around Rs 18 lakh.

Police arrested two alleged suppliers in connection with the recovery. They have been identified as Rabindra Ray and Rani Devi.

In a separate operation, GRP personnel seized 2.246 kilograms of morphine, valued at approximately Rs 63 lakh. One person, identified as Matiar Rahman, was arrested in connection with the case.

Police sources said investigations are underway to trace the broader network behind the illegal drug trafficking activities.
