Bongaigaon Medical College to admit 100 students from current academic year: Assam Minister

Assam Health Minister Ashok Singhal on August 14 visited the newly constructed Bongaigaon Medical College and Hospital and inspected its infrastructure before holding a meeting with the hospital authorities.

During the visit, Singhal said the medical college was being developed as one of Assam's most technologically advanced medical institutions.

He said 100 students would be admitted to the medical college from the current academic year.

The health minister also said the newly constructed hospital would be formally opened for public service within a short period.

Speaking about the flood situation in Upper Assam, Singhal said adequate healthcare services had been ensured at every relief camp in the affected areas.

He expressed gratitude to ASHA workers, nurses and doctors for their services during the difficult situation.

Singhal also said essential medicines were adequately stocked in all government hospitals across the state.

While medicines for common ailments such as fever and cough were available at primary health centres, patients requiring complex procedures such as bypass surgery would have to be referred to medical colleges, he said.

The minister also urged doctors to prescribe only generic medicines to patients to make treatment more affordable for the general public.
