A festive spirit turned into chaos as a terrifying accident unfolded at the Jogighopa-Goalpara connecting Naranarayan Bridge, disrupting the joy of Holi celebrations.
The accident involved a collision between a passenger bus and a dumper truck, resulting in injuries to several commuters. The vehicles involved in the accident are identified as the passenger bus with registration number AS17 B 8931 and the dumper truck with registration number ML13 A 6150.
The accident was between an ultra bus and a dumper. The ultra bus, traveling from Dhubri towards Guwahati, collided head-on with the dumper truck, which was en route from Bongaigaon to Goalpara.
“The Ultra bus was over-speeding, which came across by overtaking another vehicle. In Goalpara we feel that the Ultra buses are creating nuances in our town. The buses that come from Dhubri come in 100+ speed which is a matter of concern, contrary to the state government which has issued speed limits for vehicles as they are over speeding regularly”, comments a local resident from the spot of the accident.
He further confirms “the driver of the Dumper was severely injured, and 13-14 passengers in the bus were severely affected. All of them are hospitalized in Goalpara.”
