‘Broker’ dragged out of Assam's Rangia revenue office in crackdown, held with govt documents

In a crackdown on alleged touting activities at the Rangia Revenue Circle Office, the Rangia Sub-Divisional Administration on September 19 apprehended a man allegedly involved in brokering government-related work.

The accused has been identified as Rashidul Haque alias Mune, a resident of the Pitambar Hatbajali area of Rangia.

The action was carried out under the leadership of Rangia Sub-Divisional Commissioner Nawajit Pathak at the Rangia Revenue Circle Officer's office, located within the Integrated Sub-Divisional Commissioner Office complex.

According to the allegations, Haque was involved in touting activities by allegedly approaching members of the public in connection with various revenue-related services.

He was reportedly apprehended with government documents in his possession during the operation.

Following a complaint lodged by the Rangia Revenue Circle Officer, the apprehended man was handed over to Rangia Police, which has initiated an investigation into the matter.

Local residents have long alleged that touts operate around the Rangia Revenue Circle Office, particularly in matters related to land records, correction of documents, mutation and other revenue-related services.

There have also been allegations that the involvement of middlemen creates difficulties for ordinary citizens visiting government offices to access public services.

The latest action by the sub-divisional administration has drawn attention, with authorities stepping up efforts against alleged touting activities at the revenue office.

However, the allegations against Rashidul Haque and whether any other individuals were involved in the alleged activities will be established only after completion of the police investigation.
