BSF head constable dies by suicide while on border duty in Assam's Sribhumi

A Border Security Force (BSF) personnel allegedly died by suicide while on duty along the international border in Assam's Sribhumi district on Sunday, June 14, officials said.

The deceased was identified as Prem Kumar (44), a Head Constable of the 171 Battalion of the BSF and a native of Punjab.

According to preliminary information, the jawan allegedly used his service rifle to shoot himself while deployed at a border outpost.

Following the incident, a magistrate, along with BSF and police officials, reached the spot and initiated the necessary legal formalities.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and an inquiry has been launched to ascertain the circumstances that led to the incident.

Officials said further investigation is under way.
