BTC government observes 516th birth anniversary of Mahavir Chilarai
The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Government on February 1, centrally observed the 516th birth anniversary of Mahavir Chilarai at Dimalgaon Playground in Kokrajhar with due solemnity and enthusiasm.
As part of the programme, BTC Chief Executive Member Hagrama Mohilary laid the foundation stone of the proposed Chilarai Park, a major development project estimated at around Rs 35 crore. The park is expected to emerge as a significant cultural and historical landmark in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).
Addressing the gathering, Mohilary announced that Chilarai Divas will be centrally observed every year by the BTC Government across BTR to honour the legacy and contributions of the legendary warrior and strategist. He highlighted the importance of preserving history and using such occasions to inspire future generations.
Impressed by the Kushan Dance performance presented by artistes of the Koch Rajbongshi community, the BTC CEM announced a financial incentive of Rs 5,000 for each dancer on behalf of the government. He also acknowledged the significant role played by the Koch Rajbongshi community, along with Bengali, Hindi-speaking, Muslim and other communities, in the successful implementation of the BTC Accord, stating that collective participation made the accord a reality.
Referring to the upcoming BTC Accord Day on February 10, Mohilary said the ruling BPF would begin implementing the promises made during the 2025 BTC election campaign from that day. However, keeping in mind the commencement of the matriculation examinations on February 10, he informed that the celebrations would be held at a distant location to ensure peace and avoid disturbance to students.
Several BTC officials, public representatives and local residents were present at the programme, which highlighted the region’s rich history, cultural heritage and commitment to inclusive development.
