BTC to review land policy, cancel recruitment results for 1,700-plus posts

Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Chief Hagrama Mohilary on September 16 announced a review of the recently issued BTC Land Policy and cancellation of examinations and results related to recruitment for more than 1,700 posts conducted during the previous administration.

Mohilary chaired the BTC Executive Council meeting at the Conference Hall of A-Block, BTC Secretariat, Bodofa Nwgwr, Kokrajhar, where several matters concerning the functioning and development of the territorial council were discussed.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Mohilary said the Executive Council discussed concerns raised by sections of the public and through social media over the recently issued BTC Land Policy.

He said officers of the Land and Revenue Department have been entrusted with conducting a detailed review of the policy.

On recruitment in the Forest Department, Mohilary said examinations had earlier been held for 414 posts of Forester-I and Forest Guard during the previous UPPL-led BTC administration.

Verification of 394 candidates has been completed and they have been found to be in order, he said, adding that appointment letters to the successful candidates would be distributed shortly.

However, the recruitment process for more than 1,700 posts across various other BTC departments is set to be scrapped.

Mohilary said examinations and interviews had been conducted for these posts during the previous administration, but certain irregularities, including incomplete conduct of interviews, were subsequently detected.

“Examinations and results pertaining to these posts would be cancelled,” Mohilary said, adding that the recruitment process would be conducted afresh.

Fresh advertisements will be issued and interviews will be conducted under the new recruitment process, he said.

In another major decision, the BTC government has submitted a proposal to the Assam government seeking approval for six new departments at Bodoland University.

The proposed departments are Physical Education, Sociology, Sericulture, Fine Arts, and Library and Information Science. The proposal also includes Hindi, Bengali and Nepali as Modern Indian Language (MIL) subjects.

If approved by the competent authority, the proposed additions will expand the university's existing 17 departments.

The decisions were taken as the BTC leadership reviewed land policy, recruitment and higher education-related matters affecting the functioning of the council.
