Buddhist monks from Arunachal distribute relief materials in flood-hit Sivasagar, Charaideo

The Arunachal Pradesh Bhikkhu Sangha, in collaboration with Buddhist devotees from Arunachal Pradesh, distributed relief materials and financial assistance among flood-affected people in Assam’s Sivasagar and Charaideo districts on Sunday, August 8.

The two districts have been severely affected by the recent floods, with large numbers of people displaced and extensive damage reported to agricultural land, livestock, vehicles and residential properties.

Members of the Arunachal Pradesh Bhikkhu Sangha, a prominent organisation of Buddhist monks in the state, visited flood-affected areas and distributed essential supplies to more than 300 victims at Sonari Cholapathar, Disangpani and Demow.

The relief materials included rice, blankets, pillows, bedsheets, mattresses and utensils, along with cash assistance to affected families.

Speaking during the relief distribution, Ratndeepa Bhikkhu, general secretary of the Arunachal Pradesh Bhikkhu Sangha, said it was the organisation’s responsibility to support people affected by the floods during the crisis.

He also appealed to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to ensure increased relief assistance for flood-affected communities and take steps to rebuild damaged houses and provide support for other losses caused by the disaster.
