Cachar Police arrest 14th fake doctor in Silchar; probe reveals links to illegal spa activities
In a major breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown on fake medical practitioners, Cachar Police on Wednesday arrested another self-styled doctor, identified as Jayanta Prasad Das, popularly known as Dr. J.P. Das.
This marks the 14th arrest under the district’s operation against quack doctors.
According to Cachar Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta, Das was apprehended following credible inputs linking him to fraudulent medical practices and the running of an unrecognised institution named National Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), which allegedly issued fake certificates in “alternative medicine.”

Investigations revealed that Das had reportedly studied outside India and was operating a private nursing home, Mawsumi Hospital and Geno Spa & Therapy Centre, located at Capital Point on Trunk Road in Silchar. Police sources further alleged that some of his spa centres were being used for illegal and anti-social activities, including prostitution.
SSP Mahatta confirmed that a detailed investigation is underway to trace his network and verify his claimed qualifications. “We are verifying his degrees and the authenticity of the institute he ran. Strict action will be taken against all involved,” the SSP said.
The arrest comes as part of Cachar Police’s intensified drive to identify and book fake medical practitioners operating across the district, a campaign that has already exposed several unqualified individuals posing as doctors.
