Cachar police arrest another fake doctor, forged MBBS certificate seized

Cachar Police have arrested another individual for allegedly practising medicine using forged qualifications, continuing their crackdown on illegal medical practitioners in the district. 

The accused has been identified as Shamim Ahmed Laskar, a resident of the Bhaga area under Dholai, police said.

The arrest followed a written complaint filed by Dr Abhijit Neog, Anti-Quackery and Vigilance Officer of the Assam Council of Medical Registration (ACMR). Acting on the complaint, police conducted a raid on Saturday at the accused’s medical chamber and apprehended him on the spot.

During the operation, police seized forged MBBS certificates and other related documents from Shamim Ahmed Laskar. Preliminary investigation revealed that he had been running the medical chamber illegally for a considerable period, posing a serious risk to public health.

Police officials said further investigation is underway to verify the extent of his activities and to ascertain whether others were involved. Notably, over the past few months, Cachar Police have arrested around 20 fake doctors as part of a sustained drive against quackery and unqualified medical practice in the district.
