Chatrang River swells in Assam's Gohpur, guard wall washed away as floodwater enters villages

The Chatrang River flowing through Gohpur town has turned menacing following incessant rainfall, with rising water levels damaging a guard wall and threatening nearby residential areas.

Water is flowing over the 10–12-foot-high guard wall, while a section of the structure in Ward No. 7 has been washed away by the strong current. The damage has raised concerns over the safety of residents living in low-lying areas along the river.

Floodwater has begun entering nearby localities, while several villages have already been inundated. The situation remains critical as continuous rainfall could lead to further rise in the river’s water level and expand the area affected by flooding.

The latest situation comes amid ongoing flood-related concerns in parts of Assam, with the Chatrang River and its adjoining areas facing increased pressure following the heavy rainfall.
