CJP co-convener Ashutosh Ranka, several volunteers detained in Guwahati

Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) co-convener and spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka and several party volunteers were detained by Assam Police in Guwahati on Sunday, September 27.

CJP alleged that Ranka, along with other members of its leadership and Assam-based volunteers, was detained while they were on their way to a scheduled volunteers’ meeting in the city. The organisation claimed that around 50 people had been detained, though the figure could not be independently verified.

CJP said those detained included Ankit Bhardwaj, Prem Aakash and other members of its team. It alleged that the detainees were taken to a police facility in Guwahati.

The organisation also alleged that the road leading to the meeting venue had been barricaded from both sides and that a large police presence had been deployed in the area.

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke posted about the alleged detentions on X and claimed that lawyers who reached the location were not being allowed to meet Ranka and the other detainees.

The party has announced a press conference at 12.45 p.m. on September 27 at Chaudhary Tilla, opposite the Assam Secretariat, to address the reported detentions and the disruption of its scheduled volunteers’ meeting.

The police have not yet publicly stated the reason for the reported detentions.
