Class IV student allegedly assaulted by teacher during exam in Assam's Bajali, complaint lodged

A Class IV student reportedly sustained serious head injuries after being assaulted by a teacher during an ongoing examination in Assam's Bajali. The disturbing incident, which has triggered outrage among parents and locals, has led to the filing of a police complaint and intensified scrutiny of disciplinary practices in schools.

The incident took place at St. Mary’s School, where the young student, identified as Papon Barman, had reportedly sought permission to use the washroom during an examination.

According to allegations made by the family, the teacher, identified as Pranab Basumatary, reacted violently, slapping the student and pushing him against the veranda grill. The impact allegedly caused the child to suffer serious head injuries, leaving his family devastated and demanding strict action.

The injured student was subsequently provided medical attention, while his family lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at the Bhawanipur Police Outpost, seeking legal action against the accused teacher.

Police sources confirmed that the complaint has been registered and an investigation is underway. Authorities are expected to record statements from school officials, witnesses, and medical personnel as part of the probe.

Meanwhile, the school administration has refrained from issuing any official statement regarding the allegations, further fuelling concerns among guardians and the local community.

Parents’ groups and child rights advocates have demanded immediate suspension of the accused teacher pending investigation and called for stronger monitoring mechanisms to safeguard students within school premises.
