Commuters stranded on NH-27 in Assam's Dima Hasao amid road closure; public alleges NHAI negligence

Commuters faced severe inconvenience on National Highway-27 at Gerhem, along the Maibang–Mahur stretch in Assam’s Dima Hasao district, after an approach road used by vehicles was reportedly closed from the morning of October 10 due to ongoing construction work.

The sudden closure led to a long queue of vehicles, disrupting traffic movement near an under-construction bridge and leaving commuters stranded.

According to local commuters, crossing the bridge has also become difficult because of a high road breaker on the structure, creating further problems for vehicles attempting to pass through the construction site.

Commuters also alleged that no officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) or representatives of the construction company were present at the site to manage traffic or assist stranded motorists.

The situation reportedly sparked public resentment, with commuters raising concerns over the alleged lack of adequate traffic management and coordination during the construction work.

The incident has renewed concerns over public convenience and road safety arrangements at construction sites along the highway in the hill district.

The video highlighting the situation was shared with India Today NE by a concerned citizen of Dima Hasao, showing the difficulties faced by commuters in the area.

Commuters are seeking immediate intervention from the concerned authorities to ensure proper traffic management and safe, uninterrupted movement along this important highway.
