Congress brought Bangladeshi infiltrators and gave them land: Sarbananda Sonowal

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on March 26 said the upcoming Assam Assembly elections are crucial for safeguarding the interests of indigenous people, while launching a sharp attack on the Indian National Congress over alleged infiltration issues.

Speaking on the election scenario, Sonowal alleged that during its long tenure, the Congress allowed infiltrators from Bangladesh to settle in Assam and even provided them land.

He claimed that in the past 10 years, over 1.5 lakh bighas of land have been freed from alleged illegal encroachers.

The minister further stated that illegal infiltrators are still present in several districts and must be removed, along with reclaiming the land they have allegedly occupied.

Reiterating the stance of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Sonowal said the party is committed to ensuring the security, existence, and self-respect of the people of Assam, positioning the issue as central to the upcoming elections.
