Congress confident of comeback in Assam, says DK Shivakumar; Priyanka Gandhi, Bhupesh Baghel to campaign
With political temperatures rising ahead of the crucial Assam Assembly elections, senior Congress leader and Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar exuded confidence that voters in Assam are looking for change and will vote against the BJP.
Calling it a “curious election” for Assam, Shivakumar said the Congress senses a strong anti-incumbency mood and believes the electorate is ready to bring the party back to power.
“The people need a change and they will vote against the BJP. We are confident that Congress will come back to power,” he said while speaking to reporters in Bengaluru.
Shivakumar also announced that senior party leaders, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Bhupesh Baghel, will campaign in the state as part of the party’s outreach efforts. He said several preparatory meetings have already been conducted to streamline the election strategy.
“I, along with Priyanka Gandhi, Bhupesh Baghel and others, will be going there. Three to four meetings have already been conducted. I am confident the Congress party will come back to power,” he added.
The Congress has intensified its groundwork in Assam, aiming to consolidate opposition votes and challenge the BJP’s hold in the state. With top leadership stepping in and campaign momentum building, the party appears determined to turn the Assam contest into a high-stakes political battle.
