Following the recent attack on police personnel by miscreants in the Paikan area of Goalpara district, Assam Assembly Deputy Speaker Dr. Numal Momin has strongly condemned the incident and linked it to recent remarks made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during his visit to the state.
Dr. Momin alleged that Gandhi’s promise to provide land and housing to landless people if Congress came to power has emboldened encroachers. "This is a direct consequence of Rahul Gandhi’s statements. Congress is encouraging those who defy the rule of law. The attack on the police is a dangerous outcome of this political rhetoric,” he said.
The Deputy Speaker said that the Congress party has historically pursued "appeasement politics" and maintained a “hidden agenda,” which he claimed now poses a threat to public order. He further added, “It is interesting to note that these encroachers are taking the law into their own hands only after Rahul Gandhi’s visit.”

Calling for a thorough investigation into the incident, Dr. Momin emphasised that no one should be allowed to undermine law enforcement. “A proper inquiry should be done. I strongly condemn this attack on the Assam Police,” he said.
The incident has sparked political tensions in the state, with the BJP holding the Congress responsible for what they describe as growing lawlessness in encroachment-prone areas.
