Congress failed to provide posters to Panchayat candidates...should leave politics: Himanta

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has sharply criticized the Congress party for its corruption and its leaders' attempts to deflect blame onto the BJP, following a recent incident in Dhing involving a Congress leader.

The incident centred around a Congress leader who allegedly took money from two individuals to sell a party ticket, sparking outrage in the region.

Speaking at a rally, Sarma emphasised that Congress leaders in Delhi should stop playing the victim card and instead focus on controlling the corruption within their own party in Assam.

"If the BJP is getting stronger in Dhing and Rupahi, then Congress should leave politics. These are places where we have no booth committees. On Mann Ki Baat, we don’t even get 2,000 votes. If Congress claims the BJP is gaining ground in Dhing, Rupahi, New Samaguri, Baghbar, Jani, and Chenga, then we will win 126 out of 126 seats,” Sarma remarked, pointing out that the Congress party's hold in these areas was weakening.

Sarma further elaborated on the situation, revealing that a disgruntled individual who had been promised a Zilla Parishad ticket had allegedly attacked the MP. He also claimed that the Congress had not even supported its own candidates in the current elections, with no resources, posters, or campaign materials provided. "Congress has forcefully imposed candidates on the people, and I feel bad for these candidates. Nothing has been provided for them. When we were in Congress, the situation was completely different," Sarma said.

He also pointed out the irony of Congress's behaviour, noting that while the party was taking money from candidates, people were being misled into purchasing tickets. Sarma reiterated his disdain for the party’s tactics, highlighting the contrast with the BJP's transparent leadership and election practices.
